6.) Keyword metatags: Even though Google stopped using Keyword metatags for ranking factor, these still deserve a spot in this list. Still people set up their keyword metatags for better SEO. Search engines rely on user visible text on your website in order to determine its ranking. 

Your best bet is to ignore these approach entirely. However, if someone is insisting you to implement these approach because they don’t know any better about this, take the top few keywords that your page is focused on, plug them in, and then forget about it. 

Do implement a title metatags, because it is visible to user, and one of the most important things is it will help your page to improve its ranking. Using description metatags will help, because some search engines may use it as a description.

7.) Purchase Links: Is still incredibly popular, because there are many people who get away with doing it, and it helps them with their rankings. Google uses three techniques to detect purchased links:Algorithms like their Penguin automatically detect bad linking patterns and decrease a websites ranking in search results. 

Google has algorithms that look for questionable link building practices. Algorithm of Google’s algorithmic approach like Penguin will take direct action on your websites rankings, but they can also flag your websites for manual review as well.

Google has thousands of quality ratings editors whose sole purpose is to review search results for quality purposes. Part of what they are trained to do is detect purchased links and flag them.When a purchased link is detected! Google’s algorithm flags it and make it useless from a website ranking perspective. In addition,  if they detect flagrant link buying for ranking purposes , they can do, ban sites. Use your time wisely.

Take the same time which you might have invested in finding links to buy, and build great content that earns you links instead. It’s much safer, and it will build your business for the long term.

8.) Swap Links: Another old, but not so good approach. Search engines want links to represent approval. Swapped links represent trade, and they are minor to detect. Don’t swap links for the purpose of building page rank. However, do swap links with sites only, that are highly relevant to your business, if these sites would be valuable further to your users.

Here is a good approach is - if you link to a site, even if they don’t link back, then it’s perfect to swap links with them. Building your relevance to visitors point is always good.

9.) Cloaking: This is the practice of showing different content to the crawlers than what you show to the user. It’s very popular technique with the Spammers in years gone.Search engines periodically implement new bots that they use for detecting cloaking. There is no previously known technique for cloaking a bot. These new bots easily detect a cloaking implementation.

When a search engine detects your website is cloaking, there is rigorous chance that it will lead to that website being banned. Your intention of cloaking doesn’t matter to them. So don’t try doing it.
