If you always find yourself at places with spotty Internet connectivity - commuting to work or at home, for instance - and you are fond of watching videos, then YouTube's offline feature is for you. The feature allows users to continue enjoying their favorite videos on their Android and iOS devices even when there is no usable network connection. Here's what YouTube's offline feature is all about, and how you can use it.
This feature was launched in 2014, & allows Android and iOS users to save YouTube videos to their device for later use. These videos can be downloaded via mobile data or Wi-Fi network. The feature do contain ads, so you will have to sit through an advertisement before getting to your video.
Not every video can be available : It is not necessary that every video is available for offline viewing. Many videos of India's popular YouTube content can be downloaded, but you might findsome videos that are unavailable to download.
Offline availability : Video downloaded can only be played offline for up to 48 hours. After that, you will have to find a working Internet connection and re-synchronize the video with YouTube app for changes and availability.
Upcoming features : The company announced recently that YouTube's offline feature will be added with more features. Google CEO Sundar Pichai, that users will have the option to configure the time of the download –which will help to queue the download when you're free in the day and schedule it overnight when you're sleeping.
How to download and manage a saved YouTube video
Visit the video file you want to download. Click on Add to Offline icon below the video. Note that if the video isn't available for offline viewing, it will have a different indication to Add to Offline button. You cannot download that particular video to your device.
